The left hand entrance went down to Gap House. When I was a kid we used to walk up the hidden track to go over to Taxal. I used to visit Gap House as I knew Harriet Wilson the daughter, who went to boarding school. We also had friends who had a house behind the cottage called Dugdale but I think this might be even before their house was built.

You are right about the drive to Gap House. A new drive was made in the late 70s as it was deemed too dangerous to come out where it did. Your friends the Dugdale's lived at Scardale which wasn't built when this photo was taken
