Believed to be the original 'Shall Cross' dating back to Saxon times, this monument has been placed at at the lane ends just above Shallcross Manor, Whaley Bridge.
The old stone cross which is surmounted by a sundial, stood for many years in the grounds of Fernilee Hall and was presented to the Chapel-en-le-Frith District Council by Mrs Ramsden Jodrell of Taxal Lodge.
It was stated that the cross formerly marked the parish boundaries, probably in the place where it has been re-erected.
