I think this is a pond which my grandfather Harold Wilde from Macclesfield and his friend John Sheldon created and stocked with trout. I remember as a small boy (5 to 10 years old) fishing here with them around 1948/1950's. All the fishing tackle was kept in a room in the old mill. I would like to find out more if possible. There was a man who lived in the cottages up on the road above the old mill called Allan who looked after the place (dont remember his surname).
Can anyone help with my requests ?

This may just be coincidental Mike but was it Alan Fisher that lived just up the road? He owned Gnat Hole farm if it is the same person.

Just getting back to the photo; it would seem that the fishing was good there because if I am not very much mistaken there is a small blue whale on the banking in the foreground of the photo.

Just had a thought, Mike.

The man could have been Alan Fidler not Fisher.

The man in the picture is most likely James Bennett who live at 3 Hardy Green Cottages, he looked after things down at Lumb Hole mill/ Grove Mill long before Alan Fidler did the job
