The door to the cafe referred to in the comments to photograph 256 can also be seen at the side of the shop.I spent many a happy hour in there with Cecil.

When Cecil sold his shop to Hedley Plant, we did the alterations, the date I am not sure of, my memory says the mid 60s. I recall the large glass windows should have gone round the corner into Wharf road, but when we had cut out all the stone wall, Hedley changed his mind, leaving us to answer all the questions from people going into the bank, such as, have you made a mistake? or have you had the plan upside down? Getting fed up of all this, a board was painted with the words. We are not stupid and have not made a mistake. Someone inside has changed his mind. Hedley wasn't best pleased about this and threatened to ban the culprit from the job. I was lucky the men kept quiet.
