Whaley Bridge Staff 1949

Photograph and description sent in by Derek Boothby

This is an interesting comparison with photo no. 803 of 1952. Mrs Darby and Mr Wild have left.

Back row left is Mrs Edwards, next to her Mr Wild, 2nd from right is Mr Macareth. Front row next to Mr Hallam are Mrs Darby (left) and Miss Kirk. I think I have got that correct.

I don't recall who taught me in the 1st year year, but the sequence subsequently was I think Mrs Darby, Miss Kirk, Mrs Edwards and Mr Wild.

Mrs Edwards' class was held in the Methodist Church schoolroom and we crocodiled back and forth during the day. Mr Wild's class shared the hall back to back with Mr Macareth's

Not connected to the school, but do you remember a Whaley Bridge couple called Mr and Mrs Cannon. They would have been 50 in 1949. They lived in Buxton Road, the property was called Halcyon. He was known locally as 'Sarge'. My Dad, Victor Priest, lived them during WW2 when he was evacuated there. They are in photo id 1639.
