The lady is standing outside the general store and post office. This was later turned into a cottage but was continually being hit by lorries in the snow and ice. This was before salt and grit made such a difference.
I think the insurance company must have made a final pay-out and the cottage was demolished for safety's sake.

I once recall going into the cottage with my cousin to do some jobs and seeing pieces of railway track bent round the inside of the bay window as there had been so many accidents there.
