I am pretty sure this is an old photo of Brick Row.

My Auntie Margaret lived there when she was relocated from her home in Black Hole Cottages just down the road so that they could be demolished.
She wasn't at Brick Row very long before those houses were also demolished.
To be perfectly honest you wouldn't want my Auntie Margaret moving in anywhere near your home.
She wasn't really my Auntie just a mate of my Mum's so I have no idea why I called her Auntie.
Doreen Abbott former landlady at the Shepherd's Arms pub in Whaley was born at Black Hole Cottages.
Brick Row had only about a one foot wide footpath in front of the houses and dry toilets at the top of the back gardens (obviously there weren't any front gardens) but the house nearest to where this photo was taken had a Gas Showrooms in its front room.
I can't remember just how many houses made up Brick Row but there wasn't a toilet for each house; you had to share with your neighbours and it was bloody awful. The bin men used to empty the large buckets of effluent into the bin wagon every two weeks and they had to carry the buckets on their shoulders, tripping and slipping as they went. Summer was a nightmare.
Happy days.
