This is a very old photo that I put on a forum some years ago.

The large chimney was always a bit of a puzzle; most people suggested that it was the chimney for Brickbarn Pit but it certainly couldn't be that.

An old 1910 drawing shows it to be the first chimney of the Botany and it was very close to the road on Long Hill. Some of the works within the former Botany grounds are still there I believe although nearly all the machinery was taken out and either scrapped or used in the number 2 department.

I'm pretty sure you can no longer gain access to the old ruins of the first factory and just as well as it was a very dark and dangerous place.
